A woman has slammed her 'entitled' mother-in-law for barging into the delivery room when she was giving birth so she could be the first to hold her baby. She says her conniving mother-in-law wants to be the "main character of every story" - and tricked her son into allowing her into the delivery room at the very last minute.
While she was already annoyed about her being in the room during what should be a private moment, she couldn't believe her next move. Outraged, the mum said on Reddit: "She absolutely waited until the last minute to talk my husband into letting her into the delivery room and then took our daughter from the nurse so she could hand my baby to me and then gloat about 'holding her first'."
She says her actions cost her everything in terms of a relationship - and nearly put an end to her marriage with her son. She added: "I've seen her in many situations that were other people's important situations and she will do literally anything to get in the middle. She has made a fool of herself more times than I can count. I’d say it’s some combination of selfishness and a blinding drive to be the most important person in every room."
But it seems she isn't the only mother-in-law who has overstepped their mark when it came to the birth of their grandchild, as another shared how her in-laws tried to turn her due date into a family activity. She said: "My mother-in-law and sister-in-laws told me that they all had all the family in the delivery room the whole time. Even for checks and during pushing. This included my father-in-law and the brother-in-laws.
"I was told how they were all excited to be at the birth of my first. I quickly shut that down and said I didn’t want anyone even in the waiting room. They were shocked. They felt that this baby belonged to the whole family and they should all be there to play pass the baby the second he was out. My husband tried to play peacekeeper and come up with compromises, but eventually, he realised he would get kicked out too if he didn't set clear boundaries."
Pregnant Stacey Solomon brands herself an 'old fogy' over NYE plans with JoeCommenting on her post, one user said: "Gobsmacked. First time to hear of all the male relatives being spectators, as well." Another user added: "The cult wanted to be there though!" A third user said: "I know someone who let everyone in the room. She said there were about 20 people there for her for both her kids. She didn't want everyone there but was young, and her parents "made" her invite everyone. She says she regrets it. I don't understand why people want to invade others' personal moments. It's not a spectator event. Good for you setting boundaries!"
