Hold onto your hats because this year’s Ladies’ Day at Royal Ascot was a dazzling display of style, sophistication, and sartorial splendour.
As always, the iconic event was not just about the thrilling horse races but also about the spectacular array of haute couture and head-turning headwear. From elegant dresses to extravagant hats, the ladies in attendance were winning straight out of the gate.
The incredible clothes horse leading the charge in the celebrity pack was model Jerry Hall, 67, who was wearing a wonderful black fascinator with net detail covering her face. The rest of her look channelled Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s - with pearl necklace, cat-eye sunnies and knee-length black dress.
Singer Katherine Jenkins - a friend of the Royals - was also present, posing in a sculptural black headpiece, with a net face-covering.
This Morning’s Charlotte Hawkins also looked amazing, like a 1950s dream, in a bright pink dress and pillbox hat.
Fashion Editor's best sale dresses from LK Bennett's Royal Ascot collectionAlso at the race ground, wearing something on her head she had only owned for just three weeks is the new Miss England, Milla Magee, 23.
Her tall diamanté crown, with St Georges’ cross motifs, for once didn’t make her stand out from the crowd.
“There are some absolutely fantastic pieces that I have been admiring all day.
The headpieces that some of these ladies are wearing are so stunning and I am definitely being overshadowed and rightly so!”
Mila did have the advantage though when it comes to wearing a heavy headpiece for long periods.
“It takes a lot of balance and good posture, I must say I have done the typical book on head practice, and I think I have got it down now.”
Tracy Rose, 63, and from East London is wearing a ginormous swirling orange hat, which she fashioned herself out of corsets.
“It’s a couture hat called a corset rose because the petals are made out of corsets,” she says.
This is her 43rd event, and she always works hard to get her look right, including a matching dress - and of course long orange patterned nails to complete the look.
“It so just so wonderful to go here for the people watching,” says Tracy, as a crowd gathers to watch her. “It’s so great - it has a party atmosphere.”
Charlotte Hawkins’ Chelsea Flower Show dress is perfect for summer occasionsKaren Monroe, 55, from Newbury, Berkshire, “I thought I would change this year up and go for something fun,” she says - while wearing a burger on her head.
The hat, from Pearl and Swine, is defying gravity as the floating ketchup bottle gloops on the burger.
Katie Vale, 44, and from Essex is wearing a dress from Next and large hat complete with peacock feathers, that she made herself.
“I finished it last night,” she says. “It is like Christmas Day for milliners today!" she says. "Ladies Day is the one where people go more elaborate. It is fun all week but this is the one.”
Inga Kovalerova, who lives in Windsor, has come dressed as a glamorous blossom tree with petals in her hair and on her dress, as well as two birds perched sweetly on her head.
She is a fashion designer, and explains, “This is an annual event for me where I showcase my work. It took about three months to make, and I specialise in hand embroidery,” she says.
Susan Allen, 70 and from South Wales, is wearing a huge feather headpiece of lime green and purple.
She says “We come every year and on the way home I go online to start looking for next year's outfit. I always have so many photos taken of me that I feel like a celebrity. People stop and go wow, it’s my day to feel like a celeb.”
