I NEVER thought I would be a fan of tinted SPF, but after a cabin-luggage-only holiday last week with a very limited liquid allowance, I finally put some to the test and was surprised at the results.

Garnier Vitamin C Daily UV Fluid SPF50+ Glow, £12.99 for 40ml, boots.com:

I love that this is SPF50 – you’re unlikely to use enough of a tinted sunscreen to get the advertised protection, so a higher number is always better.

It also has vitamin C to brighten skin and counteract sun damage.

The formula is very fluid, and sinks in quickly so there’s no greasiness left behind and you can easily apply other make-up on top.

Sadly, it’s available in only one shade which I found too dark for my skin.

If Garnier brought out more shades in this, it would definitely be my favourite.

Lancaster Infinite Bronze Tinted Protection Sunlight Cream SPF30 £18.40 for 50ml, debenhams.com:

Coming from a brand that solely does sunscreen and not make-up, I wasn’t sure what to expect from this one.

It’s more like a bronzing serum than a tinted SPF, and it provided the most sheer coverage of the three.

There are two shades, but thanks to the barely-there tint they will work for most skin tones.

The formula is thicker than that of the Garnier, but goes on smooth and dries to an almost velvet finish.

I had to apply quite a lot of concealer on top to get the coverage I usually like, but it would be great for beach days when that’s not a priority or for those who only want a slight tint.

I’m a big fan of the untinted version of this SPF, but I wasn’t sure what to expect from the pigmented update.

There’s a whopping ten shades to choose from, and as well as sun protection, the formula contains niacinamide to soothe skin and reduce oiliness, and hyaluronic acid to hydrate and plump.

It’s by far the thickest of the three, but also has the most coverage.

It’s definitely my favourite, and the best tinted SPF I’ve ever tried.
