Radio presenter Greg James appeared to poke fun at Rio Ferdinand over the football pundit's verdict on England 's performance in their latest match in the Euros this week.

The national team, which is managed by Gareth Southgate, 53, competed against Denmark on Thursday in their second game of the tournament. It ended in a draw as the teams scored a goal each at Deutsche Bank Park in Germany.

The result has been met with disappointment from fans. The match prompted reaction from the likes of Gary Lineker, 63, who fronted coverage for the BBC. The presenter was joined by other former professional footballers including Rio, 45, and Micah Richards, 35, for the commentary.

Rio - who played for England on numerous occasions over the course of his career as a player - described the team's performance as "lacklustre". His pronunciation appeared to attract attention from radio presenter Greg, 38.

The BBC Radio 1 host took to X, formerly known as Twitter, amid the coverage. Seemingly poking fun at the pundit's apparent pronunciation, he tweeted to his followers on the platform on Thursday night: "Couldn't agree more with Rio Ferdinand - that performance was indeed lack lushture."

The tweet has over 500 likes and Greg later reiterated his remark. It came in response to someone who replied to him: "I thought it was lacklustre but everyone's entitled to their own opinion." Greg reacted: "No, sorry it was lack lushture."

Rio discussed England's performance as part of the BBC's coverage. Asked his thoughts just moments after the match ended, Rio was heard saying: "Lacklustre. Lacked any sort of direction in my eyes. Tactically well below par - we were overshadowed tactically, I thought, by the Denmark team."

The former Manchester United centre-back continued at the time: "You have to give them that respect, they were well-drilled, tactically superior, pressed us better, pressed us together. I thought England looked very average."

He added as part of his recent analysis: "Our best players, our most decisive players, our best players are at the top of the pitch and we choose to set up to defend. We've got too good a players to sit back and set ourselves up tactically to sit back and wait and hope to get through a game."

"We need to get to the bottom of are they being told to do this or are the players actually just being forced to do this by the opposition? Because at the moment it doesn't look good for them as individuals but also more importantly as a team," the former professional footballer commented.

England manager Gareth seemed to take responsibility for the team's performance. As previously reported, he reflected: "The team didn't function today - and that's my responsibility. I'm in control and I have to find solutions."

"We can't make excuses. We have to accept responsibility. We didn't pass the ball with any intensity and we conceded possession too easily. That led to an anxious performance and we have to be better if we want to progress to the latter stages, like everyone is expecting," he went on to state.

Further addressing the team's performance in the match, he suggested: "Our press wasn't intense enough and that gave us a problem. We have got to find a way of being more compact than we have in the last three halves of football."

He commented: "These boys aren't lacking effort but we need to find more quality. We are disappointed with the performance levels in the first two games and now we've got to analyse them in depth and address the issues we have."

Gareth also stated: "I can completely understand [our fans'] frustration with the way that we played." And he went on to further state following the match: "To achieve extraordinary things, you have to go through some difficult moments."
