The woman offering solace to Eamonn Holmes following his split from Ruth Langsford has told friends she doesn't want to be seen as a marriage wrecker.
Relationship counsellor Katie Alexander, 42, has been seen with the GB News presenter on several occasions over the past year and has also been photographed at his residence.
Rumours of the nature of Katie's friendship with the veteran broadcaster first manifested last month, when Ruth and Eamonn announced their intention to divorce after 14 years of marriage - leaving fans shocked.
Katie is thought to be "in it for the long haul" when it comes to her friendship with newly-single Eamonn, with it believed she hopes their close friendship could evolve into a long-term relationship in the upcoming months. Recently, she's been assisting Eamonn through his separation from Ruth, but her mates are keen to stress that their bond only strengthened after his marriage ended.
A source close to Katie revealed: "She is helping Eamonn through the tough times but doesn't want to be seen as a marriage wrecker. The friendship has grown in recent months but Eamonn's marriage has been over for some time. She wants to help Eamonn with his situation and their friendship has grown over a period of time. She feels she will be close to him for a long period and is in this for the long haul."
Eamonn Holmes gives major health update as he reveals TV return dateIn May, the showbiz world was rocked when it was revealed that Eamonn and Ruth had parted ways after 14 years of matrimony and were set to divorce. Strains had begun to show in their relationship, and they hadn't been snapped together for two years. The former couple share son Jack together.
Katie, a mum-of-three and marriage counsellor, was spotted driving to and from his plush flat last week and was identified over the weekend as someone aiding him through the heartache of an impending divorce. Former This Morning star Eamonn Holmes reportedly left his home in Surrey last month, following revelations that his wife, Ruth Langsford, discovered messages from another woman on a laptop.
Eamonn first connected with Katie, whose identity emerged from messages initially exchanged via the platform formerly known as Twitter, back in 2015 after she replied to one of his posts. In October, he showed up at a fundraising event for a charity in Yorkshire, not far from where Katie resides, and has since become a patron. Katie has been involved with the charity, offering her services as a therapist.
Aside from his marital issues, Eamonn is also grappling with significant health challenges. Plagued by severe back pain for nearly two years, Eamonn spoke candidly about his condition this January, expressing fears over the possibility of not being able to walk unassisted ever again.
In discussing his distressing series of misfortunes, Eamonn shared: "It's as if somebody up there is playing with my life. In the past year I've had an operation on my back which went wrong and has confined me to a wheelchair. I've fallen and broken my shoulder. Honestly you could not make it up." He further remarked on his continuous struggle for recovery: "I have tried every treatment, but you go, 'Maybe I'll never get out of it,' which is a harsh reality to face."
Eamonn and Ruth met through a mutual acquaintance back in 1997, embarked on a long-term relationship, and after a decade together, they tied the knot in 2010. The Mirror has previously contacted representatives for Ruth and Eamonn for comment on this story.
A spokesman for Eamonn and Ruth declined to comment when approached by the Mirror.
