Celebrity chef Simon Rimmer has opened up about feeling left out by his wife, Ali, and daughter, Flo. During a Father's Day episode of the Who We Are Now podcast with Izzy and Richard Hammond, the Sunday Brunch host confessed he "used to sulk about it".

However, he humorously added that when his daughter hit her teenage years, he was "really glad" to be excluded, because she was "such a pain in the a**e".

When asked if he ever felt left out, Simon responded: "Oh yeah, yeah, yeah - an awful lot of the time. Yeah, I think I used to sulk about it more until you (Flo) became a teenager, and I was really glad I was excluded. Cos then you were such a pain in the a**e."

Earlier in the conversation, Simon posed a question to his fellow podcast guests: "Do you think as well, both of you, that you are aware of the fact that, the difference that your dad feels for you than your mum?".

When the topic of a "different type" of love between family members came up, Richard chimed in while addressing his daughter Izzy: "I dunno; is it? Because you have quite a robust relationship with your mother. Erm, you're close-close."

Richard, who is married to Mindy Hammond and also has a second daughter named Willow, went on to reflect on being the only male in his family, lamenting that he and Simon "can't join in with a girls' movie night" with their daughters.

Simon, when discussing his own father-daughter relationship, stated: "I think there's a big difference, and you do have double standards that you wish that you didn't. I like to think that I'm, you know, I'm sorta modern, but you do - you almost want your son to go out and be hunter-gatherer, and yet, I want to protect you (Flo) more."

He admitted that while he still protects his son, Hamish, it's a "very different thing" and acknowledged that his son's relationship with his mum differs from Flo's, but having both a son and a daughter allows him to "get over that little bit of exclusion".

Richard commented on the situation saying "it's odd" because in this "day and age" with gender fluidity and identification, we "really should be able to see beyond all of that", but he suspects it "does have an effect" at a "primal level".

Simon, who previously competed on Strictly Come Dancing in 2017, co-hosts Sunday Brunch with Tim Lovejoy. The duo made a comeback to our screens for a special bank holiday edition last month.

However, fans were quick to point out they were only tuning into the show because critically-acclaimed author Anthony Horowitz was present, and they were ready to "switch off".

Back in May, the show found itself in hot water, which resulted in Lovejoy being compelled to issue an apology just minutes into a show after guest Humphrey Ker used profanity during his introduction.
