Strictly Come Dancing star John Whaite was left fuming after his flight was cancelled at the last minute as Manchester Airport suffered a power cut.

The reality TV star, 35, and his husband Paul Atkins were set to fly to Greece for their summer holiday, but while he was on his way to the airport, he found out passengers were stranded in long queues for hours - and flights were cancelled. Unable to contain his anger, the dancer took to Instagram to release his frustration that his holiday was becoming a distant memory.

He posted a picture of himself rolling his eyes and wrote: "Supposed to be going to Greece today. But Manchester airport is apparently a s**t show and @tuiuk has emailed to say don't leave home." In a desperate bid to add humour to the tragic situation, he added: "Has anyone got a Greek beach, simulation booth installed in their back garden I could lie in for a week?"

This comes after the chef, author and presenter married his long-term partner Paul earlier this year. The couple have been together for 16 years and finally tied the knot in an intimate ceremony in New York. However, it wasn't that long ago that his relationship with Paul fell into dire straits when he appeared on Strictly last year - and many had said at the time, he had fallen victim to the show's curse.

The notion of the Strictly curse comes after many celebrities embarked on relationships with their pro dancers despite being in a romance with someone else, outside of the show. The Great British Bake Off star had been partnered with professional dancer Johannes Radebe during the 2021 series of the BBC show and said he nearly fell victim to the curse.

The dancing duo were the first same-sex couple and had made it to the final two before being pipped to the post by Giovanni Pernice and Rose Ayling-Ellis. At the time, in an interview with The Times, John said he "fell in love" with the pro dancer while engaged to Paul.

And following his candid admission, he said he "spent some time apart" from Paul. In his memoir, Dancing on Eggshells he said: "After that final dance, I hung up my clothes for the last time. I felt a sense of loss. Not because the competition was over, I was knackered and ready for a break, but because I wouldn’t get to see Johannes every single day."

He added: "I watched him as he sat on the window sill of the dressing room drinking a glass of champagne, still sparkling in his bright white show dance outfit. I was jealous of the sweat beads as they shimmered on his beautiful skin. I wanted to be close to him... We hugged goodbye, I didn’t want to let go."

Speaking about the show's infamous curse, he added: "Johannes knew that [the curse] could happen. He had seen it a thousand times with his dance companions over the years. When you are physically pressed against another man for ten hours a day, things move emotionally... He was being cautious. Strictly has a magical way of revealing the truth."

And this admission undoubtedly had a negative impact on his relationship with Paul. He recalled: "For a while, Paul and I had to have some time apart. I felt like I didn’t know what I wanted from my existence any more. Paul had moved back with his parents and I thought to myself 'What the hell are you doing?' I was making that childhood premonition of growing old alone come true."

He continued: "Fourteen years in a solid relationship with a man who loves me unconditionally, a man who would move the earth to make me feel safe and I was p***ing all over it." However, the couple managed to put John's dilemma behind them and continued to build a future together. John previously admitted that he "still loves" Johannes but realised any contact with him would be disrespectful to his now husband.
