Sarah Becker, a star of MTV's Real World, has died at the age of 52, her family have confirmed.

The reality TV personality reportedly passed away last week at her home in Illinois, where she had relocated to care for her family last year and was planning a move back to California.

Fans have since taken to X, formerly known as Twitter to pay tribute with one writing: "There will never be another like you. Hearts breaking all over the dang place because you were both the coolest and the hottest. Sarah Becker." A second added: "I just heard the sad news of Sarah Becker's passing. She was one of the kindest people I have ever had the pleasure of interacting with. She was awesome to work for, the life of any party, and always a champion of artists. You will be missed, Sarah."

Sarah had been looking after her sick mother and sister and was battling with her mental health. A skateboarding accident further exacerbated her struggles. She first shot to fame in 1996 when she appeared in the fifth season of The Real World in Miami.

At the time of her rise to fame, Sarah was 25 years old and worked in a comic book store near her home in La Jolla, California. Fans fondly remember an episode from the fifth season where she brought a puppy back to the house, reports the Mirror US. This season also introduced a new element to the show, with cast members given a task to start a business on a $50k budget. Despite their best efforts, the cast struggled to organise themselves and a series of conflicts led to the failure of their venture.

Sarah previously discussed her time on The Real World in a 1997 interview with the Chicago Tribune. She said: "For me, The Real World was a six-month long vacation, I knew from the get-go that it couldn’t be a stepping stone to bigger and better things." She confessed her dream of having her own magazine one day at the time - and that she knew her stint on the show wasn't going to get her that.

She added: “I want my own magazine someday, and I don’t think Sarah from The Real World is going to have anything to do with that.” Sarah admitted she wasn't fond of the attention that came with being on reality TV and would often try to conceal her identity when out. She confessed: "I kind of liked being anonymous. Now I go into a place and people recognize me and say, 'Hey, Real World girl! ' So when I go out I sometimes wear a hood."
