Taylor Swift issues statement on Scooter Braun 'Bad Blood' documentary

Taylor Swift’s team has issued a statement in response to the new ‘Bad Blood’ documentary. Released on Friday (June 21), Taylor Swift vs Scooter Braun: Bad Blood examines the controversial $300 million sale of the pop star's masters to the music industry mogul, which sparked a public feud that has divided fans and celebrities alike.

The two-part series is streaming exclusively on Discovery+, which is available for £3.99 a month with Amazon Prime Video’s Discovery+ channel alongside a 30-day Amazon Prime free trial. It follows several other hugely popular ‘vs’ docs including Johnny vs Amber, Kim vs Kanye: The Divorce, and Vardy vs Rooney: The Wagatha Trial.

It comes as Taylor has finished the first UK leg of her Eras Tour with three back-to-back shows at London’s Wembley Stadium, with boyfriend Travis Kelce joining her on-stage on Sunday. The megastar is now set to perform dates across Europe before she returns for five additional Wembley shows in August, with some resale tickets still available here.

Bad Blood examines the $300 million dispute which kicked off after Braun bought the rights to Swift’s first six albums in June 2019. Over two hour-long episodes, viewers are taken through a comprehensive examination of the feud, exploring the complexities of music ownership, gender dynamics in the industry and the power of fan influence, while delving into the two polarised sides of the dispute allowing them to form their own opinion.

True to the ‘vs’ format, each episode examines the opposing sides of the argument. One explores the alleged argument that the sale was conducted without consulting Swift and that she has since been blocked from buying back her masters, the other examines Braun’s allegations that Swift refused to negotiate and instead incited a public feud by pitting her fan base against him.

The access-driven docuseries sees legal experts, journalists and those close to both Swift and Braun presenting each side of the argument. Taylor’s team issued a statement that appears at the end of the docuseries that says the singer has ‘completely moved on’ from the dispute.

“None of these men will ever be able to take anything away from Taylor’s legacy as a songwriter, singer, director, philanthropist and advocate for artists’ rights,” the statement reads. “Taylor has completely moved on from this saga and has turned what started out as an extremely painful situation into one of the most fulfilling endeavours of her life.”

After losing the rights to her masters, Taylor announced she would re-record her albums, with several already released as ‘Taylor’s Version’. She has so far released new versions of Fearless, Red, Speak Now and 1989, with Reputation and her self-titled 2006 debut reportedly on the way.

Alternatively, Disney+ offers a range of new films and shows, including Taylor Swift concert film The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version) and the new fifth season of The Kardashians. TV fans can get the equivalent of two months free with an annual subscription to Disney's Standard or Premium plans, while those that prefer to pay monthly can do so from £4.99.
