Fish and chips are one of life's simple pleasures, and one charming village is boast some of the "best ever", according to tourists.

Portsoy is a picturesque village located on the north coast of Aberdeenshire, Scotland, known for its historic charm and scenic beauty. Nestled between rugged cliffs and the North Sea, this port lies along the Moray Firth, approximately 50 miles from Aberdeen.

Tourists can explore the quaint streets lined with traditional stone buildings, sample local delicacies like the renowned Portsoy Ice Cream - and of course, fish and chips.

There's nothing better than a quintessential seaside fish supper, and thankfully, Hook Line and Sinker can provide just that. This traditional chippy boasts a respectable four out of five rating on Tripadvisor, based on 112 reviews. Recent patrons have praised it as being "incredibly tasty" and "delicious", with one enamoured customer hailing it as "quite simply the best fish and chips ever," The Daily Record reports.

From the renowned 17th-century harbour being one of the oldest along the Scottish coastline to an array of scenic coastal walks nearby, Portsoy is a top contender for a staycation.

Upon arrival, it's well worth taking a leisurely walk towards the stunning historic harbour, making sure to pass by the delightful local businesses that dot the path. Visitors also enjoy wildlife spotting, including seals and otters.

Naturally, opportunities for scenic strolls along the coastline are aplenty in Portsoy. The particularly breathtaking trail of Portsoy and Sandend Circular takes you to the equally picturesque neighbouring village of Sandend and back, a delightful journey which should take around two hours. There's even a beach at Sandend where lucky visitors might catch a few rays.

Every year in summer, Portsoy ups the ante with its annual Scottish Traditional Boat Festival. Boats from across the nation will converge on the harbour for two days of festive fun.

The village is famous for this annual festival, which celebrates the area’s seafaring traditions with a vibrant mix of music, crafts, and boat displays.
