France's favourite theme park isn't Disneyland but rather one that doesn't have a single ride. Puy du Fou, which won Best European theme park back in 2013, is a historical immersive theme park located in Les Epesses in Western France.

The park opened in 1989 and has since become one of France's most popular, receiving more than 2 million visitors every year.

A rather unique theme park, Puy du Fou has no rides but is instead home to spectacular historical reconstructions in the form of dramatic shows, period villages and themed hotels.

Current shows being performed at the park, include one Viking story featuring a huge reconstructed ship and fiery explosions. While another allows you to explore a 'haunted' Château in which the the paintings talk to you and the mirrors watch you.

Within the 500 acres of land, there are also four period villages; one Viking, one Medieval, one themed to the 18th century, and another to the 20th. These immersive villages contain shops and restaurants themed to each time period, with some also serving as the location for some of the park's shows.

And the excitement of Puy du Fou doesn't end at night, with two night shows available. The first of which is Les Noces de Feu, which was voted Best Show of the Year in 2020, is a romantic tale of enduring love, that is performed almost nightly at the park.

The other night show La Cinéscénie, is only performed 28 evenings a year and requires a second admission ticket. This show actually predates the park and tells the story of the Maupillier family from the Middle Ages right up to the Second World War.

And if that all seems like a lot to get through then you can always book to stay the night in one of Puy du Fou themed hotels, with prices starting from £54.97 per person.

For more information, and to book tickets to the park visit the Puy du Fou website.
