Paul Scholes demonstrated his annoyance at Kobbie Mainoo's continued omission for England at Euro 2024.

The Manchester United starlet enjoyed a stellar season at his club but has yet to represent England at the Euros despite the issues Gareth Southgate has had with his midfield. And following reports that Trent Alexander-Arnold will be dropped for Conor Gallagher's in England's final group game against Slovenia today (Tuesday, June 25), the Red Devils legend made his frustration clear.

Taking to Instagram, the former Three Lions midfielder wrote: "Why are we obsessed with energy when we should be obsessed with the brain", implying that Mainoo should have a spot in the England side ahead of the Chelsea vice-captain.

Despite England's progression to the knockout stages with one game to go, the side have been criticised for their disappointing performances. While Southgate's team selection has been questioned heavily.

In an interview with TNT Sports, Scholes doubled down on the difference he thinks Mainoo could have if given the opportunity to star in England's midfield and likened his ability to Toni Kroos and Rodri.

"If Kobbie Mainoo came in, all of a sudden you have control, you have a player who makes your team play football," he said of the 18-year-old.

"Sometimes it takes just one player to be able to do that. You think of Toni Kroos with Germany, he just makes them play football. Rodri with Man City and Spain. I think Kobbie Mainoo has got the ability to do that and all of a sudden, that frees up the likes of Jude Bellingham.

"I think that one change could make a hell of a difference to this team". A win for England would see them secure top spot in Group C and clinch a knockout stage tie against a third-ranked team from either Group D, E, or F.
