The husband of Princess Anne has issued an important update about her health after she was hospitalised with a concussion on Monday.

Sir Tim Laurence has shared that his wife is getting better "slow but sure" after he visited her in hospital today. The 73-year-old is said to have endured head injuries following an incident with a horse at the Gatcombe Parks estate in Gloucestershire on Sunday night. The dedicated royal is understood not to remember what happened to her at this time. However, medics said her injuries seemed consistent with the potential impact from a horse's head or legs.

A doting husband, Sir Tim, was present at the time of the accident and joined the princess as they rushed to Southmead Hospital in Bristol, where she currently remains. He was spotted leaving the hospital on Tuesday after he took her some snacks. He left two hours after the visit and told reporters: "She's doing fine. Slow but sure."

Sir Tim was seen placing a blue cool bag in the backseat of his Range Rover. In response to being asked what was inside, he said: "A few treats from home." He waved to reporters outside the hospital before getting into the driver’s seat and driving away.

Anne, a skilled horsewoman who competed in the 1976 Montreal Olympics, is thought to have been kicked by a horse while walking on her estate. Buckingham Palace addressed the incident on Monday and said: “The Princess Royal has sustained minor injuries and concussion following an incident on the Gatcombe Park estate yesterday evening.

“Her Royal Highness remains in Southmead Hospital, Bristol, as a precautionary measure for observation and is expected to make a full and swift recovery. The King has been kept closely informed and joins the whole royal family in sending his fondest love and well-wishes to the princess for a speedy recovery.”

The 73-year-old princess is understood to be awake. Anne will now miss several engagements this week, including the state banquet for the Japanese State Visit on Tuesday evening and an overseas tour to Canada, which was due to start this weekend.

A Palace spokesman said: “On doctors’ advice, Her Royal Highness’s engagements for the week ahead will be postponed. Her Royal Highness sends her apologies to any who may be inconvenienced or disappointed as a result. The Japanese State Visit will go ahead as planned, though sadly Her Royal Highness will be unable to attend the State banquet tomorrow.”
