Missing teen Jay Slater may have been spotted in Tenerife watching Euros matches, the mayor of a town close to where he vanished has revealed.

Jay, 19, disappeared in Tenerife ten days ago, but Spanish authorities are yet to find any trace of him – despite a huge search operation that saw helicopters, drones and sniffer dogs deployed across rural parts of the Island. The apprentice bricklayer, from Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, enjoyed a three-day music festival in Tenerife with his friends Lucy and Brad, before leaving by car with two British men he befriended on a night out.

Jay returned with the men to their Airbnb in a rural area just outside Masca village and vanished the following morning on Monday, June 17. He was last heard from by his friend Lucy Mae Law, who claims Jay called her on the morning he went missing and said he was disoriented, needed water, and that his phone was only one per cent charged.

But several locals in the town of Santiago del Teide now say they believe they may have spotted the teenager in the days following his disappearance. Mayor Emilio Jose Navarro said some locals who reported sightings of Jay have already been interviewed by police, including a few who think they may have seen Jay on the coast watching Euros matches.

Jay's family previously shared a grainy CCTV image that shows a possible sighting of Jay in the same town. In the photo, a figure is seen walking past a church at roughly 6pm last Monday, around 7km from the Masca village Jay was last known to be wandering around in.

In an earlier sighting, the Airbnb host of the property Jay stayed at before vanishing said she saw him walking "alone and fast" on the morning he went missing, just outside the remote village of Masca. Mayor Navarro said: "We know the police are investigating (the CCTV images). They have asked for the town hall's security cameras and they are also working with the company that handles those cameras."

Jay's mum, Debbie Duncan, flew to Tenerife soon after her son was reported missing and told reporters she was "beside herself with worry" and that she was convinced Jay had been kidnapped.

Leading British detective, Mr Williams-Thomas, who worked on the Nicola Bully case and found former TV host Jimmy Savile to be a prolific paedophile, also flew to Tenerife and joined Jay's family after telling heartbroken mum Debbie he could find answers "in three days".

The former cop was yesterday seen carrying out inquiries at the holiday rental where Jay, an apprentice bricklayer, was last seen last Monday. Approached outside the property, Mr Williams-Thomas told the Mirror: "I don't want to talk in detail at the moment, but I've spent time with the family and my focus now is to build a clear timeline of the last 24 hours before Jay disappeared.

Jay's dad, Warren Slater, landed in Tenerife on Sunday and said the disappearance of his son "doesn't make sense." Along with his other son Zac and family friend Rachel Hargreaves, Warren revealed he was putting up missing posters around the village of Santiago del Teide and that police were pursuing "every lead".
