Sainsbury’s crisps recalled as they could make people seriously ill

Sainsbury's has recalled a range of its Taste the Difference crisps as they could cause people to become unwell.

The supermarket chain is pulling its Taste the Difference Sea Salt and Suffolk Cider Vinegar Hand Cooked Crisps because they may contain milk, which is not mentioned on the label. This poses a risk to people who have an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents. If you are intolerant and consume it, then you could experience symptoms such as hives, stomach upset, vomiting, and bloody stools.

However, in some rare circumstances, some people could go into anaphylaxis. This is a rare, potentially life-threatening reaction that impairs breathing and can send the body into shock. The crisps have the product code of 6328534 and the best before date of October 26, 2024. Sainsbury's has also issued point-of-notice warnings across its stores to make customers aware.

Sainsbury's has urged people not to eat the product if they have an intolerance. Instead, they need to return the product to their local supermarket store for a full refund - you do not need to have a receipt. This product is currently priced at £1.50 according to the supermarket website.

What are recall notices?

Products can be recalled for a range of different reasons including safety – if a product displays risks for the customer – or quality – when the product isn't working as it should be.

The Food Standards Agency is in charge of issuing alerts when there is a problem with a food product. The product can either be "withdrawn" which is where is it taken off the shelves or "recalled" which is when customers are asked to return it.

Food products need to be recalled if they are found to have been contaminated with pathogens that could cause food poisoning, or if plastic or metal has been found in the product due to manufacturing faults. Food items also need to be recalled if any allergen information is missing or incorrect.
