The Sun revealed that the ITV show was getting the chop after three decades.
Most recently presented by Harry Hill, when it launched under original host Jeremy Beadle in 1990 it was one of the few places to see footage of unexpected mishaps — and up to 15million tuned in.
These days Twitter, TikTok, YouTube and Instagram provide ample opportunity for people to share funny clips with the world.
A TV insider said: “The fact that You’ve Been Framed has been shelved is a sad sign of the times.
“It’s a different world to Jeremy Beadle’s heyday. Why would viewers tune in to a show featuring funny videos when they could see the same sort of thing on the internet?
“Silly clips are hugely popular on social media and the right video can go viral. There’s a thrill in achieving that — even though you don’t earn the £250 fee which You’ve Been Framed paid for contributions.”
The final You’ve Been Framed aired last August and was hosted by comic Harry, who has narrated the show since 2004.
He voiced 341 of the 701 episodes which have aired in the 33 years it has been on our screens.
