A repurposed airport installation has opened that celebrates migration which spectators are convinced is the brainchild of the elusive guerilla street artist, Banksy.

Taking to social media site X, one person wrote: “Just popping onto Twitter to speculate that this new venue is a Banksy. As an yet unannounced, Banksy, it sure as hell feels like a Banksy.”

It would not be the first time the artist’s presence has been felt at the festival.

In 2019 he created the Union Jack emblazoned, bulletproof vest worn by the rapper Stormzy, 30, during his headline set.

In an interview the rapper described how the artist approached him by “stealth” and without revealing his identity, said being chosen was “the biggest moment of my life.”

But who is the secretive artist who counts A-list celebrities including Brad Pitt among his collectors?

An icon to some, a hooligan to others, the guerrilla artist's work sells for millions, with councils and landowners fighting to profit from the buildings he chooses to anoint with his latest canvas.

Rumoured to have been raised in Gloucestershire, Banksy first came to fame after he began spray painting his trade mark stenciled design around Bristol in the early 90s.

He was said to have been inspired by the city's creative scene which cradled bands including Portishead and Massive Attack.

Moving to London in the early noughties, he quickly grabbed attention for his satirical street art, which then started popping up in cities all over the world.

The appearance of a new Banksy become a major event and his status as the masked artist, chuckling at the authorities, made him a global celebrity.

A number of names have been linked wit Banksy, Robert Del Naja and Robin Gunningham an ex public schoolboy who was brought up in Suburbia.

In the last few years an interview was unearthed where he confirmed that his name was ‘Robbie.’
