With summer and the heatwaves in full swing, we're all enjoying glorious sunny days spent at the beach, park, or just lounging in the garden. But before you let the kids loose to soak up the sun, let's talk about something important: high-factor suncream. It's easy to forget, but the UK sun can be pretty harsh, especially on your little ones' delicate skin. Using a top-notch suncream that's got high ratings for both UVA and UVB protection isn't just a good idea—it's a must.

Let's face it, though, the shelves are packed with all kinds of suncream, and it can be a bit overwhelming. But not all suncreams are created equal. You want one that’s been tested and proven to give the best protection against those sneaky rays. This way, you’re not just preventing sunburns but also keeping their skin safe from long-term damage like skin cancer.

The best buy of the week? Garnier Ambre Solaire Kids Water Resistant Sun Cream Spray SPF50+, currently £8.51 here on Amazon. Not only has it passed 'mum tests' with parents hailing it as a sting-proof buy that they can spray on their kids quickly before dashing out of the house, but it's also scored top in Which? tests.

A slightly concerning report from Which? came out this week naming three top-shopped SPFs that didn't meet their high-factor protection claims. However, this same report noted this very Garnier SPF50 as a low-cost lotion that passed its thorough tests. You only need to have a scan at the Amazon reviews from users and parents to see why it's such a favourite...

One five-star reviewer pens: "Great Product and the spray makes it extremely useful for use on children's skin as it takes less time to apply. The spray is great for value for money."

A second adds: "Great price so stocking up early this year as I always end up paying premium price over the counter. Big bottle, easy to hold with slippy hands when applying due to the shape of the side, spray application too."

"Spf 50 for fair skin and red hair. Protected my kids perfectly and wasn't much of a struggle to spray it on," notes a third.

A fourth adds: "Easy bottle to keep on hand when kids want to go outside and their parents have forgotten. Excellent for the two days of summer we had, easy to use even the kids can do it (with some supervision, of course)."

The same Which? report also noted that Boots Soltan Protect & Moisture spray SPF30, £5 here, and Nivea Sun Protect & Moisture Lotion SPF30, £7.90 here, passed the test with flying colours.

So, if you were on the hunt for SPF recommendations to see you through this heatwave, those are the three to add to your virtual shopping baskets today!
