HORROR movie fans have been left terrified after the release of the trailer for the upcoming remake of 1922 vampire movie Nosferatu.

The original Nosferatu movie was based on the Dracula novel by Bram Stoker and in the reimagined film - set to be released in December - Bill Skarsgård takes on the iconic role.

It's written and directed by Robert Eggers, the man behind 2015 horror flick The Witch.

Lily-Rose Depp stars as Ellen Hutter, a woman Nosferatu is obsessed with, while Nicholas Hoult is her husband Thomas.

In the trailer Ellen is shown to be having terrifying dreams and turns to vampire hunter Albin Eberhart Von Franz, played by Willem Dafoe.

The movie also stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Friedrich Harding and Emma Corrin, who plays Anna Harding.

Fans will have to wait a bit longer for the first look at Bill Skarsgård playing Count Orlok though, as the character is only teased as he arrives on Ellen's doorstep.

Despite this people have been left horrified over the first-look, rushing to social media to comment.

One wrote; "I don't know who put 2+2 together on this one but Robert Eggers + NOSFERATU is just genius. Even the trailer is terrifying."

Another said: "I have faith that this new film/interpretation of #Nosferatu could be an unsettling & terrifying film."

And a third added: "Yes! #Nosferatu gets it. I like it when vampires are terrifying creatures of the night."

It was previously revealed that Harry Styles was set to star as Thomas Hutter but pulled out due to scheduling conflicts.

Robert Eggers said: "I've been trying to get the word out because the word did carry that Harry Styles was going to be in the movie. I just want to be clear that he was going to be Hutter and not Nosferatu himself."
