Pop star Mimi Webb has paid tribute to a Channel 4 star who was found dead alongside his girlfriend earlier this week.
Paramedic Daniel Duffield, who shot to fame on 999: On The Frontline, was named by police as one of two people killed in a suspected double murder on Tuesday. The 24-year-old’s body was found in a house in Cannock, Staffordshire. A 22-year-old woman named Lauren Evans, who is believed to have been his girlfriend, was also found dead beside him.
Police have now launched a murder investigation into the deaths of the couple and referred themselves to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) due to recent police contact. Officials are yet to complete formal identification or confirm whether they are looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths.
Daniel was a Mimi Webb super fan and often posted videos at her gigs on social media. In a heartfelt message following the tragic news of his death, the singer told her 300,000 Instagram followers: “Forever in our hearts. Love you my darling Daniel.” His late girlfriend Lauren, believed to have been a student medical nurse, also appeared to be a Mimi fan and in one exchange on Facebook, the pair seemed to be arranging to see her on tour.
Chelsea Louise, Daniel's sister, posted a heartfelt tribute on Facebook announcing the news of her brother’s death. She wrote: "Never ever thought I’d have to write this post my beautiful brother has left us today. I’m so distraught you’ve gone, I will never come to terms with it that your no longer here. You was such a bright soul, always helping other people, making them smile, laugh saving lives. I will forever cherish you and us growing up together, you will always be in my heart. Forever 24 RIP Daniel Duffield I’ll always miss you and love you forever. Until we meet again, rip brother."
Amanda Owen insists there's 'no stress' as she opens up about 'separation'Family and friends of Daniel have since described his ‘struggles’ before he died, though it is unclear at this stage if this is linked in any way to his death. Friend Jasmin Steed said in a tribute to him: "I know you were going through a rough patch but you always seemed like you had a grip of it. We would talk it out and you would post pictures and videos of you smiling, and travelling all over the world for concerts and shows.
"You seemed happy, even though you were not. And I keep replaying the last few months wondering if I could've done more. So this is everybody's reminder that a smile can hide so much pain. Please check in on your mates regularly. I know we all pretend we live important busy lives but really, nothing is more important than the people around us.
"Dan, you saved so many lives both as a paramedic and as a friend, I'm so sorry we couldn't save yours. You held a special place in my heart, but now part of it will forever be broken. I hope you manage to find the happiness you brought to everyone else."
Detective Superintendent Nicki Addison, from Staffordshire Police's Major Investigations Department, said: “My thoughts are very much with the families at this time. I know this news has understandably shaken the local community. I’d like to reassure everyone that we’ve got a specialist team of officers working extensive hours to fully investigate what happened and support the families of those affected.” Anyone with information is urged to come forward.
