Legendary Mirror Editorial Director Hugh Cudlipp's career was celebrated this week - as more winners of his prestigious Student Award legacy were honoured.

Fiona Paus and Oli Mansfield from City University, whose video documentary investigated the experiences of two refugees at the heart of the national debate around migration, scooped the top prize in a field of talent.

More entries than ever had vied to win over judges with brilliant journalism and tenacity this year. The judges said the video was expertly produced and cut through the noise of the debate to deal with the issue with nuance and intelligence in a compelling fashion.

Daily Mirror Editor in Chief Caroline Waterston said: "The Cudlipp student prize and lecture is always a high point in the annual calendar of the Mirror. We remain proud to remember and celebrate the impact our Editorial Director Hugh Cudlipp had - not just on the Mirror, but on the entire news industry.

"Cudlipp was a man who believed vehemently in the importance of news to be informative - but told in an accessible, entertaining way for the mass market. He believed sometimes we should be shocking, sometimes we should be fun. It’s a mantra we still follow to this day."
