One of the film sites for Dirty Dancing sold for millions

The iconic inn that was the backdrop for Baby and Johnny's romance in Dirty Dancing was recently sold for $11million (about £8.7million).

Lake Lure Inn, located in Lake Lure, North Carolina, was one of the locations where the famous 1987 movie was filmed. Starring Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey, the film has become a touchstone for pop culture from its "Nobody Puts Baby in the Corner" quote to the famous lift to the song I've Had The Time Of My Life.

The inn was sold to Ridgeline Acquisitions LLC, an Atlanta-based hotel investment group. Ever since its inception in 1927, the inn has been a go-to holiday destination.

The inn has Dirty Dancing themed cabins

Besides being in Dirty Dancing, the 72-room hotel has hosted many famous faces over the years including author F. Scott Fitzgerald, and presidents Calvin Coolidge and Franklin Roosevelt. The Lake Lure Inn has immortalized these guests with aptly named suites and cabins.

The Fitzgerald Suite boasts a view of the mountains and lake outside and includes a king bed, formal sitting area, microwave, and refrigerator. The Jennifer Grey Suite doesn't have a lake view but includes a king bed, a double-sized sleeper sofa, a kitchenette without a stove, a large walk-in shower, and a formal sitting area. There's also a Swayze Suite that features a king bed, a living room with a sleeper sofa, a jet tub, and a kitchenette with no stove.

Lake Lure Inn also has two cabins that are Dirty Dancing themed - Johnny's Cabin and Baby's Bungalow. Johnny's Cabin features a king bed, a sleeper sofa, a jet tub, and a kitchenette with no stove. Baby's Bungalow has the same but also includes a private parking space and a front porch with rocking chairs.

A Standard accommodation starts at $139 (about £110), suites start at $219 (about £173), lodges start at $134 (about £106), and cabins at $239 (about £189). All rooms have complimentary Wi-Fi and are pet-friendly.

The inn is also a destination for weddings as the surrounding lake and mountains provide a gorgeous backdrop to the ceremony, rehearsal dinner, and reception. It's also home to the Iron Gate Spa, which offers facials and massages.

George Wittmen, the former owner of the inn, said that he and his wife Hope Wittmer thoroughly enjoyed owning the iconic inn. "Hope and I are grateful to our dedicated staff, many who have been with us since the beginning... We are confident that the Lake Lure Inn and Town Center will continue to thrive," he said.
