When 21-year-old D’marithe “Manny” Culbreath was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole following a home invasion robbery that ended in murder, he probably never imagined he would be getting married.
But he soon found himself rekindling his romance with his high school sweetheart Montreanna who married him in prison, convinced that one day he will get released. The couple were not together when Manny was sentenced and Montreanna found herself seeking to reconnect with him when she learned of his fate.
Talking on the Love Don't Judge podcast she shared her hopes for a life together. She said: “The future holds a lot for us. He will be coming home, I'm certain of that." Montreanna then went into further detail about their love story.
She explained: “I was only really interested in females, you could almost consider me to be lesbian when I was in high school, but I was interested in him. He knew I liked women, so he said ‘You can date women, I don't mind. Just let me know'."
She added: “He told me that was fine. so I had a little girlfriend – just somebody I was messing with. I told him about it but it ended up getting around the school and people talked about him because of it. That made him feel bad, about allowing me to do that, so it initially broke us up.”

The mum-of-two said: “It was very hard for me. I understood that he didn't deserve that and he doesn't deserve that. I was just looking at his charges and looking at the situation and thought, ‘That's not him, what's going on?’"
She then made the decision to reach out to Manny through mutual friends, asking him to call her. Montreanna described how it felt a few weeks later when he called her phone: "It felt like my heart was literally beating out of my chest. I just felt every single butterfly you could have on this earth in my stomach."
The pair very swiftly rekindled their romance and in no time at all Manny had proposed. The influencer described how they were both extremely nervous on their wedding day. She said: “That day was very nerve-wracking. I always imagined having a big wedding and more people being there.”
Now that the nuptials are out of the way they have settled into their own married life routine with daily video calls. Manny has even learned sign language in order to chat with Montreanna’s autistic son. However, their relationship has come under fire from some social media users who don't agree with it.
Montreannna shared: “People say pretty horrific things, like ‘Imagine waiting and when he gets out you get cheated on and left’ or ‘I'm sure his bunk buddy is in his drawers every night’. Prison relationships always have a negative outcome that is what most people think – but he will be coming home and I'm I'm sure of that.”
