Jeremy Clarkson has bought a boozer in the Cotswolds, which is close to a former dogging site.
The Clarkson's Farm star, 64, purchased the pub in Gloucestershire following the success of Diddly Squat Farm, which features in his popular Amazon series.
Having bought The Windmill, near Burford, Oxfordshire, for "less than £1 million", Jeremy now aims to make his mark by selling his own beer and hosting weddings at the venue.
The Windmill, known for its rave reviews and reasonable prices, was previously described as a "magical Oxfordshire wedding and event venue in the heart of the Cotswolds". It announced to be "under new ownership" on June 4th.
Speaking about his plans to branch out in the idyllic area to sell his farm produce, Jeremy told The Times: "I just needed the pub where all this could happen, and then, after I’d looked at about 14,000, I found just the place. Old, Cotswoldy and sitting in five acres of its own land."
Jeremy Clarkson 'got the kicking he deserved' after vile Meghan Markle commentsHowever, despite its salubrious location, the area was formerly home to all sorts of colourful characters, as Jeremy continued: "So I did a deal and then discovered that there was a famous dogging site in the area. Photographs from inside the nearby lavatories showed holes in the cubicle walls, strong pornography on the floor. So I went to see West Oxfordshire district council, expecting no help at all, and, blow me down, it was very happy to close the dogging site. So I was in business. My dream would become a reality."
Jeremy says he wants the pub to serve only British produce - including the salt and pepper- and be the kind of place he can go with his granddaughter for Sunday lunch.
Explaining he couldn't buy his village pub because the locals would "set fire" to him, he said he wants his new boozer to serve "well-priced, British-grown food with a pint of Hawkstone beer" - promoting his own brew.
While Jeremy appears to be buzzing about his new boozer, the same can't be said for his farm, which features in the Amazon smash-hit, Clarkson's Farm. The series – which is one of the platform’s most watched shows ever – follows the former Top Gear presenter and his sidekick Kaleb Cooper as he attempts to run Diddly Squat Farm in posh Chipping Norton in the Cotswolds.
But the presenter and his team, who have previously dealt with anger from the council and locals after fans descended on the area to visit his farm shop have been dealt another blow.
Britons up and down the country were already fuming this summer was turning out to be a washout in what has been dubbed the ‘wettest summer ever’ in the UK – and could be the worst for 100 years. But Jeremy reckons we should spare a thought for farmers whose crops may be damaged by the constant downpours.
Taking to Instagram to share an aerial photo of Diddly Squat Farm, showing how the rain has already ruined some of this year’s plans, meaning the farm is at risk of not producing any profitable crops, he told fans: “It’s going to be a rough year. All that seed sowed, drowned with the constant rain.”
