The Princess of Wales had her hair grabbed by an overly enthusiastic fan leaning in for a selfie before a security guard stepped in.

Catherine was meeting royal fans ahead of the Coronation concert at Windsor last year when the incident, involving an American tourist, happened. The princess did not seem concerned and was pictured smiling for a selfie with the royal fan, but a security guard was quick to intervene and push the woman's hand away from Catherine.

Meanwhile, another security guard approached Catherine to assess the situation but the princess remained calm and collected. After the photo was taken, she politely told the fan "nice to meet you", showing that she was not overly alarmed by the incident.

The fan, who was clearly thrilled by the opportunity to meet the princess, smiled with delight before apologising to the security guard who pushed her hand away. During the walkabout, Catherine also hugged a crying little girl in a touching moment.

The princess gave the teary youngster, who was wearing a headband with Union Flag deely boppers and a navy dress covered in patriotic motifs, a long hug, and the girl started crying. As Catheinr crouched down to speak to her, she continued chatting with the girl, who nodded her head and gave a small shrug as the princess patted her back.

Catherine also comforted another little girl, named Lucy, who got emotional when she met the princess. Prince William was with his wife during the walkabout and was heard telling a group of well-wishers: "Enjoy the concert tonight."

Today, it was confirmed that Catherine will not be at a rehearsal for Trooping the Colour next weekend as she continues her cancer treatment. As Colonel of the Irish Guards, she traditionally would have taken the salute at the Colonel's Review, the traditional rehearsal ahead of the main Trooping the Colour event, on June 8.

However, the princess, who is expected to return to official duties only when given the all-clear by doctors after her cancer treatment, will be replaced by Lieutenant General James Bucknall, KCB, CBE. The former Commander of the Allied Rapid Reaction Corps has attended every King's Birthday Parade since 2009 when he was appointed Colonel of the Coldstream Guards, having served as a Coldstream Guards Officer for more than 45 years.

Catherine's diary has been cleared entirely for this year while she undergoes preventative chemotherapy treatment after being diagnosed with the disease in February after abdominal surgery. The princess, 42, has not been confirmed as attending the main Trooping event for the King's birthday on June 15, although palace sources have previously said that the future queen may decide to attend some future royal events if she is well and able at the time.
