Chelsea have ripped up their contract policy for incoming boss Enzo Maresca in order to install much-needed stability.

The Italian is on the verge of replacing Mauricio Pochettino at Stamford Bridge. Maresca has accepted an offer to move to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have also agreed to pay the £10m compensation package written into the former Manchester City’s coach’s contract with current employers Leicester. According to The Telegraph, Maresca will put pen to paper on a five-year deal in west London, with the option for a further season.

The decision is a huge departure from Chelsea’s previous approach with Pochettino. The Argentine penned an initial two-year contract with the club, with the option for an extra season.

It is reported that Chelsea have changed their policy to give the club some more stability after two seasons of turbulence, both behind the scenes and in the dressing room. Meanwhile, it is also hoped that Maresca’s long contract will silence any talk of possible renewals.

Once his arrival is made official, he will become the sixth manager of Clearlake’s spell with the club. Thomas Tuchel was in charge upon their arrival and was replaced by Graham Potter.

Bruno Saltor was named caretaker after his exit, while Frank Lampard and Pochettino have followed since. Away from Maresca’s contract in west London, it appears that he is also starting planning from the summer transfer window.

Reports have suggested that the Blues want to sign a goalkeeper, centre-back, left-back and forward ahead of Maresca’s debut campaign. Burnley's James Trafford is among the names being considered between the sticks.

There are also a couple of candidates for the centre-back vacancy including Barcelona star Ronald Araujo and Tosin Adarabioyo. A top level striker is also among the priorities for Chelsea. Napoli star Victor Osimhen has been strongly linked with a switch to Stamford Bridge but a touted swap deal involving Romelu Lukaku has already been ruled out.

Away from Chelsea, Leicester have also been forced to launch their search for a new manager following Maresca’s exit. West Brom boss Carlos Corberan is reportedly one of the options but Leicester could find it tricky to recruit him due to their poor financial situation.

The Foxes could be heading into next season with a considerable points deduction after breaching PSR rules. Leicester earned an instant promotion back to the Premier League last season under Maresca.
