Normal People stars Paul Mescal and Daisy Edgar-Jones have finally revealed what their tease meant.
The actors sent fans into a frenzy earlier this week as they reunited with a cryptic post. They both starred alongside each other in the 2020 BBC Three miniseries, which is based on the book of the same name by author Sally Rooney. Daisy, 26, and Paul, 28, lead the cast in their roles as Marianne Sheridan and Connell Waldron respectively.
It was described as a "compulsive modern love story" and received much acclaim, including a BAFTA, following its release. There's since been hope among fans for a second series to provide an update on the pair. Daisy took to her Instagram on Tuesday with a photo of herself and Paul. Alongside a heart emoji, she wrote: "We've got some news to share! Watch this space."
The duo have finally shared what the plans are as they shut down rumours they're set to return for a second series. Daisy and Paul revealed there will be a special charity screening of the entire show taking place next month. A central London cinema, which is yet to be confirmed, will host the event on June 16.
The stars will raffle tickets to the screening as well as attend the event. They will be joined by director Lenny Abrahamson, producer Ed Guiney and other “friends from the show.” In a post shared on social media, Paul stated: "We are incredibly sorry if we led people on. It’s not a season two." Daisy added: “Not yet. There’s still time. Keep the faith.”
Angelina Jolie spotted enjoying a coffee date with 'newly single' Paul MescalThe screening will support the Pieta House Foundation, which is an Irish charity that aids families of those affected by suicide, suicidal ideation and self-harm. Fans reacted to the news as one said: "Very good. I love them." Another added: "Whatever happens, I donated for a good cause." Someone else commented: "I really don’t think s2 was ever happening in the first place. The series was touted and is still listed as a mini series so…"
A fourth declared: "It doesn’t need a season two. It one book ,one season. Done. Finished." However, some fans felt disappointed they'd got their hopes up as one said: "Damnnn hopes crushed. Fingers crossed for season 2." Another wrote: "What !!! I wanted normal people season 2!!!"
The show, set in Ireland, explored the relationship between students Marianne and Connell. It ended with the characters seemingly agreeing to part ways but with the possibility of them reuniting in the future. Actor Paul previously shared he would “love” to work on Normal People again, alongside his co-star Daisy.
“I would love to do a Normal People season 2,” Paul insisted. "I would work with Daisy again in a heartbeat and regardless of working with her again, I'm just really excited to see her so we can see each other again. It would be great.” The BBC star told Digital Spy: “At the moment, there's nothing at all in the pipeline so I don't want to be quoted on 'maybe there's going to be a Normal People season 2'. There's nothing at the moment."
