Ulrika Jonsson has shared her support for Ruth Langsford after it emerged she and Eamonn Holmes were divorcing.
The Loose Women panellist, 64, and GB News star Eamonn, also 64, who tied the knot in 2010, sent shockwaves through the UK showbiz industry last Saturday when it was revealed they had called time on their marriage and were headed for divorce courts. The two started dating in 1996 and welcomed a son in 2002.
Since the news broke, it has been claimed Eamonn had been left "blindsided" by the announcement which his former wife reportedly orchestrated. Eamonn and Ruth had once been branded the golden couple of British telly and were known for showing their love for one another on and off the screen.
But since the divorce news, fans have been voicing their support for both Ruth and Eamonn but it appears former Gladiators presenter Ulrika is on Team Ruth. In her latest column, she branded Holmes "a leading member of the Grumpy Old Men's Club". Jonsson penned: "Ruth is being painted as 'Ruthless' for abandoning her husband in his darkest hour," following Eamonn's recent health issues.
Writing for The Sun, she commented: "This is baffling to me. Let's face it, Eamonn, 64, has become a leading member of the Grumpy Old Men's club over the years and he's a proper curmudgeon. It could just be that all his moaning got on Ruth's nerves. There she is, wanting to crack on with life, and she's got an old misery on two walking sticks dragging her down."
Eamonn Holmes gives major health update as he reveals TV return dateDespite her comments, Ulrika went on to say that she likes Eamonn "a lot". She added: "Ruth is a damn fine-looking woman and she's smart, empathetic and full of energy — any man would be lucky to have her. I'm sure Eamonn appreciated he was always punching above his weight with Ruth, and I don't doubt he loved her very much."
Whispers of a shock announcement began circulating on Saturday before the sad news was finally confirmed by the couple's representatives over the weekend. The joint statement read: "Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes have confirmed their marriage is over and they are in the process of divorcing."
They had been together for 27 years and share a 22-year-old son, Jack. Eamonn returned to work on Tuesday as he presented his GB News show with his wedding ring still on. Meanwhile, Ruth was spotted running errands in Surrey while still wearing her wedding ring.
