Kyle Colcomb tragically died after being ’trapped in a machine’ at a recycling plant, suffering from compression asphyxia and blunt force injuries to the lower trunk
A 27-year-old man tragically died after becoming trapped in a machine at a Cardiff recycling plant, a court has heard.
Kyle Colcomb was working at the Atlantic Recycling site on Newton Road when the fatal incident occurred at 12.52 pm on July 8, the Coroner’s officer Beverley Morgan revealed. The inquest into Kyle Llewellyn Colcomb’s death was opened at Pontypridd Coroners’ Court.
“He became trapped in a machine, suffered fatal injuries, and died at the scene," the court heard.
Dr Richard Jones of the University Hospital of Wales performed a post-mortem examination, provisionally determining the cause of death as compression asphyxia with blunt force injuries to the lower trunk.

The court was informed that Mr Colcomb, originally from Cardiff and living in Newport, would have an inquest opened due to the suspicion that his death was unnatural.
Coroner Patricia Morgan announced that while the inquest would be opened, it would be suspended to allow South Wales Police and the Health and Safety Executive to continue their investigation and any subsequent proceedings.
She added: "I will direct both police and the Health and Safety Executive to maintain contact with me so they can inform me when proceedings have concluded. A decision will then be made as to whether the inquest is resumed. I wish to take this opportunity to express deep condolences to the family of Mr Colcomb at this tragic time."
Last week his colleagues at M&B Hydraulics paid tribute in an online statement, "We are all absolutely devastated at the loss of Kyle, who was an outstanding fitter, an absolute gentleman and an all-around nice guy," it read. "Totally irreplaceable. Absolute pleasure to have worked with you and have known you. RIP OUR FRIEND. Our thoughts go out to all his family at this terrible time."
