A Manchester City fan has died after collapsing at yesterday’s Manchester football derby, the club has confirmed.

Manchester City has said it is ‘aware of the tragic news that one of our supporters passed away following a medical incident’ at the club’s match against Manchester United at the Etihad stadium yesterday (Sunday, December 15). Eyewitnesses have told the Manchester Evening News how the incident unfolded at around 4.10pm near one of the entrances to the stadium.

An eyewitness has said people have been left ‘traumatised’ by the heart-breaking scene as stewards tried to save the man.

A statement from Manchester City, released this afternoon (Monday, December 16) said: “Manchester City are aware of the tragic news that one of our supporters passed away following a medical incident at yesterday’s match.

“The thoughts of everyone at the club are with their family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.”

A witness, who wished to remain anonymous, told the M.E.N.: “It was about 10 past 4. We were going into the grounds at entrance K and the gent was on the floor having CPR performed on him. It had just happened as there were only a few people in front of us.

"There was one steward working on him, and we were all screaming for them to get a defibrillator. It was chaos.

"A young girl ran over to get the defibrillator. At this point more stewards came running over and formed a circle around him.

"They worked on him for a long time, about 20 minutes and he was taken into an ambulance. We are all traumatised by it."
