Two men arrested over alleged rape of 19-year-old man in Brighton

Sussex Police said they have arrested two men in connection with the alleged rape of 19-year-old male in Brighton in the days running up to Christmas

Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the alleged rape of a teenager following an encounter in Brighton’s Harry Ramsden’s.

Sussex Police said the 19-year-old victim had reported to having been approached by two men unknown to him near the popular fish and chip restaurant, in Old Steine, around 3:30am on December 21. He then said he was raped in nearby Steine Lane shortly afterwards.

The victim later managed to get help from a passer-by, who in turn called police. Sussex Police said the victim continues to receive support from specialist officers as the investigation is ongoing.

Following enquiries, a 40-year-old man from Redhill, Surrey, was apprehended in Esher, Surrey. Police also arrested a 42-year-old man from Chessington, Kingston-Upon-Thomas, was arrested in Ramsgate, Kent.

Both were arrested on Boxing Day on suspicion of rape. They remain in police custody at this time.

Detective Inspector Sean Booth said: “These arrests were as a direct result of excellent work from our dedicated team of staff, officers and the public. We are still urging anyone with information about this incident to contact police online, or by calling 101, quoting Operation Attach.”
