Cody Gakpo revealed there was plenty that he could improve after making his full Liverpool debut on Saturday evening.

The Dutch forward was signed from Eredivisie side PSV Eindhoven during the opening days of the January transfer window having impressed in his home country as well as during the World Cup in Qatar. He has cost the Reds approximately £40m with Jurgen Klopp not hesitating to introduce his new arrival.

Gakpo was granted his full debut for the club having been named in the starting XI in Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Wolves in the third round of the FA Cup. Asked what he thought of making his first Anfield appearance, he said: "Really great atmosphere.

"For my own game, I think I showed some good moments and some sloppy moments.

"So, I can also still improve on those points and keep working and try to help the team as much as I can. Of course you learn the most when you're playing games, so I'm looking forward [to more]."

Gakpo was not able to experience a win on his debut with a full-strength Liverpool side having been held by a rotated Wolves. Goncalo Guedes had given the Midlands outfit the lead after taking advantage of a howler from Alisson.

Strikes from Darwin Nunez and Mo Salah flipped the game on its head, only for Hwang Hee-chan to equalise. Toti Gomes thought he had won the match for Wolves only to see his strike ruled out for a controversial offside decision with a replay now set to be scheduled.

"I think we played in phases really good football but in the end we didn't score enough, so that's a pity,” Gakpo added. "But I think we showed what we could do, but we can still improve on some points and let's work on that.

“I think we showed real team spirit at moments, so that's good. I think we have to go there [Molineux] with great determination and just go for the win."

Gakpo will certainly hope to get on the scoresheet in the Reds’ next outing as they travel to AMEX to take on Roberto di Zerbi’s in-form Seagulls in the Premier League. Speaking at full-time, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp said: “We didn’t deserve more than a draw tonight.

“The consequences are in this case there is an extra game. That’s fine, I have no problem with that. Wolves are probably more happy with it than we are but until then we will be happy enough to give it a go.”

Liverpool have now won just two of their five matches in all competitions since returning to action after the World Cup having been eliminated from the Carabao Cup by Manchester City. The Reds also sit sixth in the Premier League and seven points behind fourth-place Man Utd.
