Plane crashes just after take off leaving man with 'life-threatening' injuries

A MAN was rushed to hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries after an aircraft crashed shortly after take-off.

Emergency services were called to Damyns Hall Aerodrome in Aveley Road, Upminster, Havering, just after 12pm today.

London Fire Brigade responded to reports of a light aircraft which had crashed in a wooded area soon after take-off.

There were also three ambulances, a medic response car and two members of Hazardous Area Response Team at the scene.

London's Air Ambulance were also called to the crash site.

A man and a woman were found and there were initially believed to be no serious injuries.

However, Met Police have now confirmed the man was rushed to hospital by London Ambulance Service with potentially life-changing or life threatening injuries.

London Fire Brigade Station commander Jeremy Davies, who was at the scene, said : “Firefighters worked with partners to release a man and a woman trapped inside a lightweight aircraft in woodland near the aerodrome.

"They were both taken to hospital by road and air ambulance crews."

Following the crash a spokesperson from the aerodrome said: "We have been informed by the Air Ambulance that an accident has occured just off the Damyns Hall Aerodrome and they are at the scene".
