Organisers of the four-day extravaganza, however, reckon the crowds will still sink more than 280,000 pints of the real thing.

The alcohol-free option is not this year’s only change as the 163-year-old dress code is ditched to make things more inclusive.

Race-goers will be free to wear what they want — while pouring their own beers at the first self-serve bar on a UK racecourse.

Punters will, on average, spend £697 during their time at the Gloucestershire track, bringing £274million to the local economy.

This year’s royal contingent is expected to include Queen Consort Camilla, Princess Anne and Mike and Zara Tindall.

Other famous faces are expected to include Rod Stewart, Mary Berry and Alex Ferguson.

There will be 28 races in all with a combined prize of £4.8million. Friday’s action — headlined by the Gold Cup — is sold out.

Other tickets are still available.

The capacity is capped at 68,500 each day following last year’s record 280,000 attendance.
