Who was Marilyn Monroe's half-brother Robert?

Robert Kermitt Baker and his sister Berniece Baker Miracle were Gladys Baker's children from her first marriage to Jasper Newton Baker, however when she tried to end the relationship, he kidnapped the children and took them to Kentucky.

Marilyn's half brother, also known as "Robert Jasper", "Jackie" or "Kermitt" was born on January 16, 1918.

Not much is known about Robert but records show he may have lived an equally tragic life as that of his half-sister.

When he was three years old it is reported his parents were arguing while driving a convertible and Robert fell from the car, injuring his hip.

His leg never recovered and he walked with a limp for the remainder of his life.

There was also an incident at a 4th of July party when he took a firecracker and put it into a Coke bottle which then exploded, causing him to lose his right eye.

How old was Robert when he died?

Robert tragically died on August 16, 1933, when he was only 15 years old.

The little boy's leg had been placed in a cast after he fell out of the car when he was three, but when they removed it they discovered one leg was shorter than the other.

The cast had not allowed it to grow properly and this led to health difficulties which resulted in Robert being in and out of hospital until he died.

Close to his death, Robert was diagnosed with tuberculosis of the bone and placed in a Louisville hospital.

He died of kidney failure as a result of the tuberculosis, as the organ could not continue to fight the infection.

He did not know anything about his half sister when he passed away and is buried at Flat Lick, Knox County, Kentucky.

What did Marilyn say about her brother's death?

Marilyn never got to meet her half-brother and there is nothing much said about Marilyn's reaction to her half-brother's untimely death.

However half sister Berniece, claims in her book My Sister Marilyn: A Memoir Of Marilyn Monroe, that her brother was simply "unlucky”.

When Gladys heard of her son's death she reportedly took out her grief on Marilyn, and said: “Why couldn’t it have been you?” while screaming repeatedly.

Not long after this Gladys suffered a mental breakdown.
