THEY are headlining festivals including TRNSMT, Park Life and Radio 1’s Big Weekend this summer.

But The 1975 are already lining up a much bigger stage to perform on next year.

Insiders have told me the band, fronted by Matty Healy, are hoping to headline Glastonbury in 2024.

A music insider said: “The 1975 have wanted to play Glasto for a couple of years and feel they’re more than ready for the Pyramid stage.

“The Arctic Monkeys were booked for this year so it wasn’t possible for them to be on the line-up.

“Glasto boss Emily Eavis is keen to have them on board too.

“Fans will have to wait until this time next year to get the official nod on it but it’s pretty much a done deal.”

Matty and the rest of the band — bassist Ross Macdonald, guitarist Adam Hann and drummer George Daniel — have previously played at the festival three times, including a set on The Others stage in 2016.

Three years ago Matty said the group had designs on playing the Pyramid stage, but admitted their schedules were so hectic they hadn’t been able to make it work.

He told former Radio 1 DJ Annie Mac: “It’s such an amazing thing to do as a band.

“That would probably be the only gig I feel like we need to do before it kind of all changes.”

Matty also revealed he was planning to go down to Worthy Farm as a punter, but the pandemic ruined his and everyone else’s festival fun.

Previously Emily and her dad Michael have confirmed they want the band on board.

This summer, alongside the Arctic Monkeys, they have lined up Guns N Roses and Sir Elton John to headline — with Lizzo also high up on the bill.

According to Emily two of the three headliners next year will be female, leaving a perfect 1975 shaped space on the line up.

I personally cannot think of anyone who will be more thrilled than Matty’s mum, Loose Women star Denise Welch, who has become a regular at his gigs.

Denise is often seen hobnobbing backstage with stars like Taylor Swift and Jared Leto – and I expect Glasto will be no different.
See you in the Rabbit Hole, Denise.

LUCIEN’S GREEN OF THE CROP

AS slick financier Alfie in Emily In Paris, actor Lucien Laviscount is known for his sharp dress sense.

But after seeing him rock up to the launch of pop star Shawn Mendes’ collection with Tommy Hilfiger – he has a lot to learn about fashion in real life.

Lucien wore this plunging green top with black and white striped trousers and hideous brown shoes.

I know the clobber was borrowed from the designer . . . but I’d have made any excuse not to wear it.

He was in good company, with supermodel Jourdan Dunn, who wore trousers in the same garish shade, along with a matching striped top.

Despite some of the dodgy gear, Shawn had a good turn out to his bash at London’s Café Koko – including Pamela Anderson.

Let’s hope the collection is more haute couture and less Stabilo highlighter.

ROBBIE’S BACK FOR GOOD . . .

ROBBIE WILLIAMS is Back For Good in Britain after selling up in Switzerland.

The Angels singer moved there two years ago, but then put his £24million Swiss home on the market again last spring.

Now he has officially changed his country of residence from Switzerland back to the UK in paperwork for his firm Youth Ltd.

Robbie and his wife Ayda Field had hoped to start a new life with their four children Teddy, Charlton, Coco and Beau, as well as Ayda’s mum Gwen, having previously been living in LA, where he has also sold up.

Robbie will be spending most of this year on tour across Europe, so he’ll have plenty of time to work out where he wants to put down some roots.

As one of our own, it would be great to have Robbie back on home turf.

Wonder what the chances are of him settling back in Stoke...

FAB FLO IS ALL TIED UP

FLORENCE PUGH put a fresh spin on black tie when she pulled up at the screening of A Good Person in New York.

The Brit actress wore this backless silk shirt complete with a black tie and oversized trousers at the event inside the Metrograph cinema.

Florence plays Allison in the gritty film, whose picture perfect line is turned upside down after a horror car crash which sees her spiralling into addiction.

The film, directed by Florence’s ex-boyfriend Zach Braff, is out on Friday.

SUGGS’ PRANK CAUSED CLASH

SUGGS has revealed Madness had a huge falling out with punk rockers The Clash after pranking them in their heyday with a faked drugs bust at a London music venue.

The House Of Fun singer said: “There was a time we all got real police uniforms, and you can imagine the fun we had.

“The Clash were rehearsing at The Roundhouse and we kicked the doors in dressed as coppers.

“All you could hear was doors slamming and toilets flushing, and they never spoke to us for five years.”

Speaking to comedian Richard Herring at the recording of his podcast in London’s Leicester Square, Suggs also recalled a wild night during a gig in Greece when the band feared for their lives.

He explained: “We went to this gig in a palladium in Athens and it just went off.

“About 3,000 people turned up with crash helmets. Our security guard got murdered – that’s a nice start to the evening.

“I thought, ‘F*** this – there’s a filing cabinet’, and I tried to get in there.

“I looked in and there were these two Japanese girls hiding inside.

"The ground’s on fire. Talk about a near-death experience.”

The group, who came to prominence in 1976, had 17 singles and ten albums which got into the top ten.

And Suggs reckons it was only their hits that prevented the music industry turning against them.

He said: “We were really horrible people who happened to be able to get away with it.

"Fortunately the records were popular with the people.

“We were banned off Top Of The Pops four times but we just kept having hits.

“You saw the look on their faces –‘Them again’.”

AMERICAN TYPEWRITE

PUSSYCAT DOLLS singer Ashley Roberts tested her sea legs in Dubai.

The American singer wore a bright pink mini dress for a trip on the water as she enjoyed a holiday with two pals.

For the past week Ashley has been sunning herself in the UAE and has stayed at the plush Caesars Palace hotel – where rooms go for around £600-a-night.

I think I’ll be sticking to something a little more affordable when I book my summer holiday.

TESS IS JUMPING FOR JOY

MOST people might check their phone or grab breakfast when they wake up but Tess Daly reckons skipping is the route to happiness.

The Strictly host has just released self-help book, 4 Steps To A Happier, Healthier You, and says a few minutes exercising with a rope is even better than a strong espresso first thing in the morning.

Tess said: “I’ll get the skipping rope out in the back garden and I’ll skip.

"Moving, it energises me and it gets the endorphins going.

“For me, a little skip in the morning for three minutes is better than a coffee.

“I do still need a cup of builders’ tea prior to skipping, full disclosure.”

If you say so, Tess. I think I’ll just hit snooze for a few more minutes instead.

NOEL TO ROLL-UP WITH IT

SUN, sea and . . . showbiz makes California a dream for a lot of musicians when they head off to tour the US.

But Noel Gallagher says he’s only keen on travelling to the States so he can try out legal cannabis, after California passed new laws seven years ago.

Noel and his band High Flying Birds are heading off on a joint-headline tour with Garbage in June.

He said: “I do like Los Angeles, especially now weed is legal.

“It’s probably the most interesting thing about California.

“It’s the singular most interesting thing that will happen on the entire tour.”

I’m sure that’s not true, Noel.
