THIRTEEN million drivers suffered pothole damage last year - costing £1.7billion to repair.

Damage from rogue hellish holes on Britain's highways are now at the highest numbers in a decade, and have doubled since 2013, Kwik Fit repairs found.

Nearly two in three British drivers said they had hit a pothole at least once a week in the last year.

And 2.7million reported that they were without their cars for seven days as the damage was so bad.

The average cost of damage has reached £127.

More than half of drivers said conditions on their roads had got worse in the last decade.

And around the same number think cash raised through fuel duty and road tax should be ring fenced to help Britain's crumbling roads.

It comes after a damning survey from the Asphalt Industry Alliance’s ALARM annual survey revealed the dire state of Britain's roads yesterday.

Just half the country's roads are rated as "good".

And it would cost a staggering £14billion and 11 years to get them up to scratch.
