Exeter City striker Jevani Brown has pleaded guilty to assaulting a woman in a city centre incident last month but will face trial for an alleged assault on another female in the same incident.

The 28-year-old has been suspended by his League One club since the allegations surfaced on February 2. Brown entered the pleas at Exeter Magistrates' Court this morning and will face trial on July 7. He has been granted unconditional bail.

The trial date will rule him out of a return for the Grecians this season after they previously said he will not be considered for selection until the legal process concludes. He has been allowed to continue training with the club.

"Jevani Brown appeared at Exeter Magistrates Court on Thursday morning in relation to an incident in February. He pleaded guilty to one charge of assault and not guilty to a second charge of assault,” the club said in a statement.

"A trial date has now been set to hear the case at Exeter Crown Court on July 7. As the legal proceedings remain active there will be no further comment from Exeter City Football Club."

Brown is Exeter’s top scorer this season with 14 goals. The Jamaica international has also provided nine assists.

Exeter’s initial statement last month confirmed that he would not play until the legal process is completed. "Exeter City Football Club is aware of the charge made against Jevani Brown.

"As this is a legal matter, we are unable to make any comment until legal proceedings have been concluded. He will not be selected to play during this period."
