A nightmare neighbour left a couple next door ‘scared to death’ following a ‘brazen’ attack involving biting a man in his own home.

The couple had an ongoing dispute with Hussain Tanweer, 56, which saw a number of police call outs and resulted in Tanweer being convicted of assaulting the man in April last year.

He was handed a suspended sentence and banned from contacting his neighbours by way of a restraining order.

However, on October 10 last year, he was spotted exercising outside their house in Rochdale and the man began to film him. He told officers this was because he felt Tanweer was trying to ‘intimidate him’, Minshull Crown Court heard.

An argument developed between them resulting in Tanweer going into the front garden, removing the heads from flowers and trying to pull out a rose bush, reports the Manchester Evening News. He also kicked the front door and banged on the windows.

“The defendant then entered the back garden and went into the property through the back door. She (the neighbour) was standing there in the dining room as she saw the defendant approach her,” Keith Jones, prosecuting, said.

“As he approached her he hit her on the top of the head before hitting her shoulders and kicking her stomach causing her to fall to the floor. He (the neighbour) returned and the defendant’s attention changed,

“He punched him in the stomach, kicked him as he was on the floor trying to protect himself and got on top of him, punching him to the head and body.”

Whilst trying to hit the man in the head, Tanweer bit the man to his cheek, lip and arms. The man was left with five bite marks, some of which were bleeding.

The dining room was also left an ‘unsightly mess’ following the melee. After the attack, which lasted between five and six minutes, he was told to get out of the house and was arrested a short while later.

In a statement, the man said he had been affected physically and mentally, that he struggled getting up and had trouble sleeping after the attack. He added that he experienced a ‘high level of anxiety’ stating: “I can’t live my life without being in a constant state of fear”.

His wife added: “These ongoing issues have made me absolutely scared to death. I struggle sleeping and I constantly feel on edge - I just want these issues to stop.”

Julian Goode, mitigating for Tanweer who repeatedly shook his head and said ‘rubbish’ throughout the hearing, told the court that his client suffered from significant mental health issues at the time. He said they have since improved whilst he had been remanded in custody.

“There are reports by the defendant of items of food being thrown into his garden and racist language in provocation,” Mr Goode said.

“And a statement from the community safety officer has said that loud, heavy metal music is being played and there is cutting of the lawn when the lawn is being cut, as well as aggressive behaviour towards Mr Tanweer.”

He added that his client had been a social worker for three years, until the offences he was convicted of last year. Mr Goode also said that Tanweer is planning to sell the house and move out with help from his son.

Sentencing, the judge, Recorder Peter Horgan said: “This was a long standing dispute. You were sentenced to a restraining order preventing you from contacting them directly or indirectly or entering their home.

“Despite that, three months later you took part in these offences at their house. You went in brazenly. Their lounge was left a complete and utter mess. He had numerous human bite injuries to his face and limbs.

“You have a history of violence against the same victim and a history of poor compliance.”

Tanweer, of Marland Fold, was jailed for 17 months, after pleading guilty to wounding, assault and breach of a restraining order.
