A new plane service lets you soar above one of the most beautiful landscapes in the UK for just £100.

Each year around 20million people visit the Lake District to enjoy its stunning scenery, hikes and excellent pubs.

Although the majority of people will experience this gorgeous national park from the ground, now there’s a way you can drink it in from the sky, Manchester Evening News reports.

From £103 per person you can take a private flight over the hilly region, giving you a birds-eye view of its famous landmarks.

From the comfort of a small plane you can swoop over Lake Windermere, Scafell Pike and Coniston Old Man, experiencing the landscape which filled William Wordsworth full of earthly wonder.

Flight sharing provider Wingly is currently offering people the chance to book flights in the UK and in Europe - and one of the routes heads over the Lakes.

Taking off from Blackpool Airport, the flight heads north offering impressive views of the Fylde coast and Morecambe Bay.

As you peer out the window you’ll be able to see the spectacular landscape of the Lake District unfold before you as the flight continues.

Depending on the weather and cloud cover the route may vary, but the plane usually flies along the length of Lake Windermere and takes in views of Scafell Pike and Coniston Old Man.

On the return journey you’ll pass over Coniston Water, Grange-over-Sands and Arnside and Silverdale, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

There’s a degree of flexibility on what you can see during the flight and detours can be made if you have any special requests.

Landmarks such as Aira Force, Levens Hall and Lancaster Castle are among those which can be added to the route.

You can plan an alternative route from Carlisle Airport by arrangement.

During the flight the pilot will provide commentary so you'll know exactly what you're looking at.

The plane only seats three passengers and the journey lasts an hour and 15 minutes, meaning you can take in the highlights of the Lake District within one afternoon.

Recently explorer Tom Chesshyre embarked on a 379-mile hike around the Lake District, to explore some of the lesser trod areas.

One of his favourites routes was the one from Penrith to UIlswater.

"It one of the most beautiful lakes," he told The Mirror. "As I came through green dotted lines, through the farm lands, I dropped down and saw the wonderful expanse, like a hidden Himalayas."

The adventurer recommends jumping on the train at London Euston and whizzing up to the Lakes, a journey that takes less than three hours but transports you into a different world.

He added: "You walk for a couple of hours and you're in this wonderful scenery on a misty, hazy sunny morning with snow on the fell tops.

"It started straight away, it was a series of treats. Like opening a present."
