Jose Mourinho has rejected claims that he has already held talks with PSG over a summer move to take charge in the French capital.

The Portuguese boss has enjoyed an excellent stint as manager of Roma since his arrival in May 2021. He lifted the Europa Conference League title during his first season at the Stadio Olimpico, before nearly making it back-to-back European titles - only for his side to fall to a penalty shootout defeat to habitual winners Sevilla in the Europa League final.

The ex-Chelsea and Manchester United man’s future remains somewhat uncertain after the defeat, with his future in the Italian capital in question. He was linked with a move to take over the Portuguese national team in December, and now rumours of him taking the reins from Christophe Galtier at PSG refuse to go away.

Mourinho was asked about his future following the defeat in Budapest and insisted that there have been no discussions with the French giants. However, he did suggest that talks would be held with Roma regarding his future should there be an approach in the future.

“I am going on vacation on Monday,” Mourinho said. “If we have time to talk about it before Monday, we will. If not, I will go on vacation and then we’ll see. I have to fight for these lads and therefore not say objectively that I will remain.

“I am a serious man. I told the owners a few months ago that if I had some contact with other clubs, they would be the first to know. I would always be honest and direct.

“I spoke to the club in December when I had that approach from the Portuguese national team. I have not had any contact with anyone else since then. I have a year left on my contract and this is the situation.”

Following defeat to Sevilla, Mourinho will be aiming to get Roma back into the Europa League on the final day of the Serie A campaign. Heading into their final day clash with Spezia, the Giallorossi sit sixth and one point clear of Juventus.

A win will guarantee their spot in the Europa League, whilst either a draw or a defeat to the relegation-threatened side sees them in a vulnerable position of dropping into the Conference League. The defeat against Sevilla has not gone down particularly well with Mourinho but he refused to criticise his side.

He added: “What I said is we either leave here with the Cup or we leave dead. Well, we’re dead. We’re dead tired physically, dead tired mentally, dead because we think it is an unjust defeat with lots of incidents that are debatable.

“We are dead tired, but proud. I always say you can lose a football match, but never your dignity or professionalism. I won five European finals.

“I lost this one, but I return home prouder than ever this time. The lads gave absolutely everything this season.”
