Melania Trump is fully behind her husband's election campaign after admitting it would be a "privilege" to serve as first lady again.

Mrs Trump confessed she was looking forward to working alongside the former president's campaign in "restoring hope for the future and leading America with love and strength" during a second term in the White House.

Donald Trump announced his 2024 re-election campaign in November, and is currently leading in the polls for the Republican presidential nomination.

This comes at a time when he faces allegations of rape made from former columnist E Jean Carroll who claims the former president attacked her while in a New York shopping store in the mid-1990s - Mr Trump has denied the accusations.

Meanwhile, wife Melania Trump has said she will stand by her husband in his 2024 presidential campaign, stating he achieved "tremendous success" last time around.

"My husband achieved tremendous success in his first administration, and he can lead us toward greatness and prosperity once again," Mrs Trump told Fox News.

Melania's support for her husband also comes amid other claims launched against Mr Trump including his alleged payment to porn star Stormy Daniels in the run up to the 2016 election.

The payments were made to cover up an alleged extramarital affair, according to authorities.

In addition, he has also pleaded not guilty to 34 felony charges.

Melania was not at her husband's side when he was arrested and did not travel to the Criminal Court in Manhattan, New York after he became the first US president in history to be criminally charged.

But despite the charges, Mrs Trump said that if her husband is elected in 2024, as first lady, she would "prioritise the well-being and development of children as I have always done."

"My focus would continue to be creating a safe and nurturing space for children to learn, grow, and thrive," said the 53-year-old.

"If additional problems arise, I will take the time to study them and understand their root causes.

"My goal would be to ensure that every child has the support and resources they need to reach their full potential.

"He has my support, and we look forward to restoring hope for the future and leading America with love and strength."

The former president, who has not attended E Jean Carroll's civil trial, has also not called any witnesses in his defence as the trial draws to a close after two weeks of the proceedings in Manhattan.

Ms Carroll, a former columnist for Elle magazine, was able to bring the civil case against Mr Trump after New York ratified the Adult Survivors Act in 2022.

It allows a one-year period for victims to launch sexual assault lawsuits in the state - which would have normally exceeded statute limitations.
