There's a swathe of Apple news being announced tonight including the revealing of the new iOS 17 software update. The upgrades are being unveiled at the firm's WWDC Developers Conference and there's good news for MacBook fans as well.
The US technology giant has uncovered a massive upgrade with the launch of a new MacBook Air with a whopping 15.3-inch display. That's the biggest yet in an Air and puts it on par with the Pro models.
That extra screen space will make this new Air perfect for those wanting extra room to work, play games and binge in boxsets.
Along with being bigger, this Liquid Retina screen also gets impressive technology such as 500nits of brightness and 1 billion of colours for an improved viewing experience.
Apple is also boasting that despite its massive size, the new Air remains super portable. In fact, it weighs in at under 1.5Kg, that's compared to the much heavier 2.16kg 16-inch MacBook Pro. It's also just 11.5mm thin which should make it perfect to pop in your bag - Apple is even bragging that this is now the world’s thinnest 15-inch laptop.
Millions blocked from iconic iPhone app forever after 10 years in major shutdownHead under its toughened aluminium shell and it's powered by Apple's supremely powerful M2 silicon which means it will easily cope with tasks such as 4K video editing, photo retouching and answering endless emails. In fact, it's around 12 times faster than the best Intel-powered devices.
Other features include an impressive 1080p webcam, MagSafe charging, two USB-C ports and 18-hours battery life.
The design of the new 15-inch MacBook Air also features a phenomenal new six-speaker sound system with two tweeters and two sets of force-cancelling woofers.
It will arrive later this month in numerous colours including Midnight and Starlight.
UK pricing will be announced soon but in the US it will cost $1,299. It can be ordered from today.
“We’re thrilled to introduce the first 15-inch MacBook Air. With its incredible performance and striking design, the new MacBook Air is the world’s best 15-inch laptop. And it’s only possible with Apple silicon,” said John Ternus, Apple’s senior vice president of Hardware Engineering. “From its expansive Liquid Retina display and remarkably thin and fanless design, to extraordinary battery life and an immersive six-speaker sound system, the new MacBook Air has it all.”
