He wrote in the caption: "So long, farewell to @bain_bow hope to see you in the future. Thank you for all your hard work."

Fans of the show were quick to point out their similar outfits, with one writing: "Flat cap twinning."

A second chimed in: "Twins!"

Other followers seemed to think it was Christopher himself leaving the show, leaving viewers disappointed, with one stating: "I loved watching you repair the books, such care, making slip cases too when you thought it necessary, you'll be missed."

Another added: "So sorry to see Christopher leave The Repair Shop. Good wishes for the future."

Despite the mix-up, James responded to the post in the comments, replying: "Wonderful working with you and the gang!"

Presenter Jay Blades has since spoken of the future of the popular show.

The series received the Daytime prize at the TV BAFTAs for an episode of The Repair Shop: A Royal Visit that featured King Charles III, when Jay and the specialists visited Charles at Dumfries House in Scotland.

"I think we've been commissioned for another two years if I'm not mistaken. We are going to do more. We've just won a BAFTA so I think they're going to want us to stay on air," the star told Hello magazine.

Jay was recently left in tears on the show after welcoming bereaved couple, Emese and Luke to the barn.

The couple brought the clay imprint of their late son David's footprints, which were taken just days before he passed away at five months old.
