TOTTENHAM fans have been left divided after new manager Ange Postecoglou's first big decision was confirmed.

The ex-Celtic head coach, 57, was announced as Antonio Conte's successor earlier this month.

Interim boss Ryan Mason, 31, took charge of the final six games of Spurs' underwhelming Premier League campaign after Conte's caretaker Cristian Stellini was dismissed following a 6-1 loss to Newcastle.

And it had not been confirmed whether he would remain a part of the backroom staff following Postecoglou's arrival.

However, according to The Mail, the ex-Tottenham midfielder will be staying at the club.

It is understood he is a "popular figure among the players and well liked by staff".

Mason has coached at Tottenham since 2018 when he was forced to retire from football due to risks associated with the fractured skull he suffered while playing for Hull in January 2017.

Yet despite his long affiliation with the club - joining the academy as a boy in 1999 - many fans have criticised Postecoglou's decision to keep him on.

Reacting on social media, one person said: "He is definition of Spursy and rewarding a failure ????."

Another added: "So let’s get this right, the man who wanted the job is now being kept on lol."

A third replied: "Liked by club staff. Of course he is. He's a yes man."

And a fourth responded: "'Popular', this isn’t a contest, it’s a football club."

However, some were quick to praise Postecoglou, with one tweeting: "Really pleased to hear this."

Another wrote: "This is great news, hope it helps his development."

A third added: "Would have been gutted if he'd moved on."

Postecoglou also reportedly wants to add Celtic coaches John Kennedy and Gavin Strachan to his backroom staff.

Ex-Chelsea and Bayern Munich coach Paul Clement is also being monitored in case they cannot bring Kennedy and Strachan in.

Meanwhile, Spurs are also eyeing up several players in the summer transfer market including the likes of James Maddison and David Raya.

But the big story remains the future of record scorer Harry Kane, who is being heavily linked with both Real Madrid and Manchester United.
