Tottenham vs Brentford betting preview

Two clubs still targeting a top-seven finish which would secure European football next season meet in this weekend’s opening Premier League game.

Tottenham have stuttered and stumbled in recent weeks and are now only inside the top seven on goal difference with Aston Villa chasing hard behind.

Spurs’ travails have also ensured Brentford still have a chance of their own.

The Bees have picked up with three wins from their last four to add some pressure on those above but they simply have to post another victory here to keep their hopes alive.

Of course, the much-publicised problem is they’ve lost 20-goal striker Ivan Toney to suspension which has to be a blow.

That said, Brentford’s record without him this season is impressive. He’s only missed three games but in those, the Bees have secured two wins (at home to Liverpool and West Ham) and a draw (at Forest).

Spurs’ recent record of one win in six will give the visitors plenty of hope that they can claim the required victory which could take the European race to the final day, although the hosts’ record on home soil has been considerably better than on the road – against the teams currently below them, they’ve won 10 of 12.

With Harry Kane is fine form, Spurs may have enough in the tank to get the job done here, although it’s hard to back them at odds-on with any confidence right now.

Instead, the goalscorer markets look worth probing with real potential for a high-scoring game given the circumstances facing both teams. Read on for our best bets.

Tottenham vs Brentford best bets

Harry Kane anytime scorer

Kane has now scored in 10 of his last 12 games for club and country and simply can’t be ignored at odds-against.

To score 27 Premier League goals for what has been a pretty average Spurs team this season is exceptional and Tottenham will need him to deliver again here if they want to be playing European football next season.

Maybe some will doubt their motivation for that but Spurs’ home record is strong and Kane will surely still be eyeing that 30 mark.

Yoane Wissa anytime scorer

With Ivan Toney beginning his lengthy ban, Wissa looks set to start at centre forward where, notably, he’s scored in three of his four games this season, including all three when Toney has been absent.

Spurs have kept one clean sheet in their last 12 domestic games so Brentford should be confident of creating chances and finding the net.

Essentially, the DR Congo international is a decent stand-in and looks a good price to score here.

Bryan Mbeumo & Yoane Wissa 1+ shot on target each

Again, look at the games where Toney has been missing and these two have played together up front and you find this bet has landed on all three occasions – and Brentford have won two of those matches.

Wissa has managed a shot on target in three of his four starts at centre forward, hitting three against West Ham last week.

Meanwhile, Mbeumo has had a SOT in six of his last seven appearances.
