Tim Sherwood has likened one of Tottenham's summer transfer targets to Jack Grealish as the club look to rebuild after a shambolic season.

It's been a chaotic season for Daniel Levy's side, with ex-manager Antonio Conte leaving in acrimonious circumstances in March. Interim boss Cristian Stellini then lasted a matter of weeks before being sacked, with Ryan Mason currently in temporary charge as the club struggle to negotiate a deal with current Feyenoord boos Arne Slot.

To compound the turmoil, star striker Harry Kane has been the subject of constant speculation over a move away. Spurs are likely to target an host of new signings this summer, with Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White - who has been a revelation for Nottingham Forest - one name linked.

Sherwood has talked up the impact of Gibbs-White at the City Ground, who proved doubters wrong amid scepticism over the £40 million price tag when he moved over from Wolves. “He has been outstanding,” Sherwood told Premier League Productions.

“He takes the pressure off the defenders. He takes the ball. A bit like Grealish when he takes the pressure off. Buys some fouls and takes you up the field. But real quality - Forest have got to be commended for taking him there. £40 million seemed a lot of money, but I think by the time next season comes, and if they stay in the Premier League again and he keeps getting shone in the correct light, then I think he will be a cheap signing.”

Indeed, the former Spurs player and boss has also argued that Wolves will now regret the transfer. He praised Forest manager Steve Cooper for handling the 23-year-old correctly amid the club's unlikely survival this season.

“This boy has come from Wolves," he added. "They have had a big influx of foreign players, mainly Portuguese players who have come into that group. He should still be there, in my opinion. I think the Wolves fans will be looking at this and thinking ‘wow, how could this boy be so good for someone else’. He has brought into it."

Tottenham's quest for transfers is currently hampered by the absence of a sporting director, but the need for midfield reinforcements has been enhanced by the long-term injury to Rodrigo Bentancur. Lucas Moura is also leaving the club this summer.

The impact of Gibbs-White this season was hailed by Sky pundit Jamie Carragher on Monday Night Football this week. The former Liverpool defender named him as the 'signing of the season' in his unofficial Premier League awards adjudication with Gary Neville.
