Wrexham Women’s promotion hero Delyth Morgan has landed a plum role with Liverpool Women ’s goalkeeping staff months after helping Ryan Reynolds’ and Rob McElhenney’s club to a historic double promotion.

The 27-year-old announced she is set to join Liverpool Women’s staff on a full-time basis as part of their Pro Game Academy. The keeper will balance her new role with the Reds with her current commitments at Wrexham. Wrexham will compete in the Adran Premier, Wales’ elite women’s league, following their promotion play-off victory over Briton Ferry earlier this season.

Morgan came through Liverpool’s academy before departing to become part of the original Wrexham Ladies team formed in 2013.

Her impressive performances between the sticks for the Red Dragons and Wales’ under-19s earned a move to Women’s Super League side Everton in 2015, a year before Wrexham Ladies were forced to fold due to a lack of senior players and financial struggles.

Morgan returned to Wrexham in 2021 for a second stint in what has transpired to be the most fruitful of returns as the keeper propelled Wrexham to a sensational return to the top-flight.

Six goals conceded all season is the sort of record a goalkeeper might have tattooed on their face, but for stalwart Morgan, it was on brand. Wrexham’s promotion clinching victory over Briton Ferry hinged on the former Liverpool academy player’s authoritative display, in which she batted away Ferry’s relentless salvos, including a dramatic finger-tip save in injury time.

While continuing her playing career, Morgan has worked vigorously to obtain her coaching credentials. Earlier this year, she became the first Welsh female in history to earn a UEFA Goalkeeping ‘A’ licence.

Before taking on her newest role with Liverpool, Morgan served as the goalkeeping coach to Wales under-19s. She coached at Cefn Druids, a men’s team competing in the Welsh second tier and also served as Head of Academy Goalkeeping at Connah’s Quay Nomads, who compete in the men’s Welsh top-flight.

Earlier this month, Liverpool confirmed the repurchase of former training base Melwood and stated their intent on using the elite facility for their women's side following a positive campaign upon their return to the top-flight, in which Matt Beard's side finished seventh in the WSL table.

Wrexham too are relishing new standards since their impressive campaign last season. The women's team are set to play home matches at The Rock, sharing the 3,000-capacity stadium with Cefn Druids, while becoming the first women's team in Wales to compete at semi-professional level. Meanwhile, Hollywood star and Reynolds' partner Blake Lively announced her company Betty Buzz as the club's new official training kit sponsor.
