FIRST Dates star Fred Sirieix has seen his E4 show, Fred's Last Resort, axed after just one series.

The programme made its debut earlier this year but will now not be returning.

In the show, Fred met 10 young people who had fallen into patterns of unrest and insecurity and helped to transform their lives with a new highly-charged job role.

Fred took the youngsters to the French Riveria where they worked in luxury hotel hospitality in a bid to prove they had what it took to survive in a high-pressured work environment.

Amongst the demands of the high clientele and the new working surroundings, the hopefuls attempted to prove to Fred that they had what it takes.

The show allowed Fred to take a peek back into his life growing up.

He also trained in the French Riviera before becoming an in-demand TV personality.

Confirming the axe in a statement, a Channel 4 spokesperson said: "Every year, Channel 4, like all broadcasters, makes decisions about which shows to rest, return or conclude to ensure we always innovate and offer viewers the best range of programming.

"The decision not to recommission Fred’s Last Resort was not financial."

It comes as the network has reportedly run into funding issues and has had to make the difficult decision to can a slew of successful shows.

The budget cuts are said to have affected Four Weddings, Scared of The Dark and Rescue: Extreme Medics.

Popular panel show The Last Leg is also believed to have had its episode order slashed for its upcoming series.

The network has made a series of big decisions lately, axing SAS: Who Dares Wins and reality show Murder Island, while the future of Rise and Fall hangs in the balance.
