Lily Rose Depp has hit back at critics over her role in Sam Levinson's, The Idol.

The star, who is daughter to Hollywood actor Johnny Depp and model Vanessa Paradis, acts as Jocelyn, an aspiring pop star who begins a complicated relationship with a self-help guru, Tedros, played by The Weeknd.

HBO series The Idol has recieved criticism from fans for being "cringey" and "off-putting", similarly, USA Today said the show was "sexist, gratuitous, exploitative ... and achingly boring."

During the show, Lily engages in sex scenes with her co-star The Weeknd, real name Abel Tesfaye, and is usually donning a skimpy outfit in line with her sex-positive character.

"It’s all me. I love doing that kind of work," she said. "I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that. And I don’t think there’s anything wrong with enjoying that kind of work.

"Every outfit and every interaction and every piece of nudity and all those things are very intentional and were really important to me.

"Maybe this makes me, like, a little twisted but I feel really good after doing scenes like that because there’s something that feels very therapeutic about it to me — and maybe that’s why I like doing this job," Lily added.

Her admission comes after the show lost 100,000 viewers after the backlash over the X-rated sex scene between The Weeknd and Lily's characters.

One particular scene from the second episode has been branded as the "worst sex scene in history" by fans and publications alike - which has sparked a backlash and dip in viewership.

The line that really caused outrage was when Tedros said: "F***ing stretch that tiny, little p***y," during their raunchy moment

And now Variety has reported that the new episode attracted 800,000 same-day viewers on Max and HBO, down from 913,000 for the premiere - meaning they have lost 113,000 viewers.
